When Northenden Golf Club was gutted by a fire, their insurers provided them with a fixed budget for their renovations. The Club’s Directors approached APL Architecture to find an innovative solution, one that would allow them to create a new facility for members and an external function space, doubling the usable space within the original footprint.

It was quite a challenge, but working closely together we were able to concieve and deliver an entirely new multipurpose layout, one that has transformed their business and the experiences of both visitors and members.

Mining equipment designers Joy Global required two very different objectives from their new warehouse facility in Bolton. In leaving their Wigan base for a purpose built facility, they wanted to be able to store products and test them across two storeys.

The products in question are drills that help to stop mines collapsing, so it was far from an empty warehouse space. Being highly specialist in terms of the cranes required and the huge machinery that had to be accomodated, it was a huge project, and high pressured in more ways than one.

APL helped co-ordinate everything down to the smallest technical detail, ensuring the move and continued growth of the business was totally smooth.

Delivery giants FedEx commissioned APL to take an existing low bay warehouse and extend it for greater capacity, simultaneously increasing the roof height to create a high bay. This extra space allowed for the addition of an external single story office as well.

We began by stripping the entire building back to the steel frame, gradually layering up the refurbished structure and recladding to their exact requirements. The bigger, brighter space now houses a giant new conveyor system.

DAF Trucks required a full overhaul of their existing Barnsley-based warehouse facility. The new structure was to provide a spacious glass-fronted showroom, along with associated offices over two floors, vehicle servicing and an MOT testing centre.

Stripping the entire building back to the frame, we overclad the outer structure and refurbished the entire interior, conceiving an enormous corner window for the showroom to offer up the maximum natural light to the sizable products on display.

Provision are the ITV owned film lighting company. Having purchased a derelict warehouse in central Manchester, they required a complete overhaul to provide a usable storage facility.

Our designs saw the building stripped back to frame, and a new two-storey office added, alongside a purpose-built warehouse facility for storage of all Provision lighting equipment.
